The Seven Keys to Creating Power Partnerships to Grow your Business Exponentially

By Denise Trifiletti
Founder, Women’s Community, LLC

Creating Power Partnerships opens up the possibility of a more joyful life and exponential business growth.

I believe and know that the Power of Partnerships™ is the key to increasing sales, margins and profits.  When we work with others and ourselves effectively, we are capable of amazing things.  The partnerships we form with others (such as clients, prospects, employees and contractors) and the partnerships we create with ourselves and our time directly affect our success. The most valuable partnerships, the ones that help drive your business, we call “Power Partnerships.”  A “Power Partnership” in business is one in which you and your partner leverage each other’s talents for the benefit of both parties. In doing so, both companies add value for their respective clients and everyone wins!

In other articles, I talk about how strategic business partnerships, power partnerships with employees and contractors, and a partnership with self.
This article explains seven keys to creating Power Partnerships and making your vision a reality.

There are three reasons why Power Partnerships need to be part of your core business strategy:

  • To increase your sales, reach and profits
  • To focus on your strengths and interests – what you do best.
  • To live joyfully and de-stress vs. trying to do it all, and alone.
  • To create products and increase your revenues 24/7
  • TO build your subscription list
  • To increase your expert status and credibility
  • To get consistent, quality referrals
  • To gain loyal clients who provide ongoing revenue
  • To enjoy and master the sales and marketing process – a key to your success.

What are the steps to creating Power Partnerships?

1. Know yourself. Build a “Partnership With Self.” Identify and focus on your strengths, passions and purpose – the foundation of a joyful life and a rock-solid business!

2. Define your ideal target client and market niche—those you wish to serve and whom you can serve the best. Write down the specific demographics and psychographics you want to deal with, and describe your ideal client. Ask yourself the question, “If I had to choose between Client X or Client Y, which would I choose?”  Instead of trying to be everything to everybody, narrow your market to only those types of clients you are passionate about serving. By specializing, you become even more valuable in the marketplace, and you will be fulfilling your partnership with self at the same time, because you are working within your passion. Present your unique difference, and your clients will appreciate your value and pay even higher rates to work with you.

3. Identify and make a list of your prospective Power Partners once you are focused on your strengths and passions and know who you can best serve. There are three types of Power Partners to seek out:

  • Those who can fulfill a business need you have, particularly in an area that is not your strength or interest
  • Those who can help you increase your sales and reach
  • Those who can provide support and accountability to help you grow.

Power Partners often provide products and/or services that are complimentary to yours, and target the same market as you do. They may also be established in markets that are new to you, and can help you learn the ropes, which will in turn allow you to expand your offerings.  You can very likely return that favor in another market, where you have more experience than they do.

4. Be proactive. Before you contact potential Power Partners, do your research and preparation. First, have your Partnership with self detailed in writing in your GROW model(1). Who are all the players who may be involved in the decision to partner? What are their potential needs and pains?  What can you offer them? How are you unique? What is the best way to reach this prospect? Begin your Partnership process by explaining your “end in mind”—a Power Partnership that is of mutual benefit. Set the stage for a creative and collaborative process. Succinctly share the potential problems you can solve or gains and benefits you can provide, and then ask them to explain how they perceive the value of your offerings.

5. Learn the proven GROW Partnership Model (1) and ask questions regarding each aspect of the model. The key to a Power Partnership is to fully understand all you can about your prospective partner, and asking is the best way to learn. Peel the onion. Ask, ask, and ask some more.

6. Present your offer based on what they have shared. Address only those aspects of your product or service that are of interest to your prospective partner.  Keep it as simple as possible. Provide options from which they can choose, and an easy way to try out the Partnership.

7. Ask for feedback. How do they feel about the Partnership?  What are the areas of most interest and value to them?  What is the potential impact?  Are there any concerns or questions?  Address their needs. Cement the partnership, and then congratulate yourself for creating a Power Partnership that will lead to growth for all parties involved!

Ask any successful person for the key to their results and they’ll tell you, “Others who helped me.”   Power Partnerships create a way for you and your partners to succeed by helping each other.  Use these seven steps and watch your business boom!
